800 degrees has been a major hit in Westwood with all the local Bruins. On any given day, you will find a line out the door. Obviously, it was time to expand. They opened a new location in Santa Monica and it’s better than ever.
This location is much bigger. While, they do have a few kinks to work out (efficiency is lacking right now) The employees were all very friendly. There are many more tables at this location and an abundance of parking structures and metered parking.
The set up is cafeteria style (think subway, lemonade, simply salads, etc.) You choose your type of pizza. Vegans – stick with marinara; however, now they do offer Daiya. NOTE: every pizza comes with free garlic and oregano. There’s no “protein” option for us vegans yet, but for the vegetarians and omnivores there are plenty of meats and even eggs. There are also 9 different cheeses to choose from- 10 if you count Daiya. As far as veggies there are several to choose from – broccolini, olives, tomato, onion, capers, jalapeño, etc.
Me, I like the marinara with pineapple, tomato, spinach, and pine nuts. (pictured below). This is Neapolitan style pizza, with a thin crust made of flour, water, salt, and yeast. (There is a gluten free option) It is cooked in a wood-burning oven.
Aside from pizza, they offer salads, wine, and a great soda fountain.
Check it out – it’s pizza with a twist. A yummy, crispy, delicious twist.
